Darwin Signs: The New Rising Star in Signage in the NT

Darwin Signs   |   Australia

Darwin Signs provides a broad range of signage solutions to the corporate, industrial, retail and general business sectors across the Darwin, Palmerston, rural and remote Northern Territory. Founded only 4 years ago in 2020, they’re already being recognised for the high quality work and excellent service they offer. They’ve had two nominations to the prestigious Australian Trades Small Business Champion Awards in the Business Services category and won the Signmaker category in 2024

Having the Roland VG2-640 has made workflow faster, rather than outsourcing, and provides my clients with exactly what they want, when they want.

Before

  • Staff at Darwin Signs had previous experience with other brands of latex printers, but they wanted better print quality for their clients.

After

  • Darwin Signs launched with a TrueVIS VG2-640 for its faster workflow, vibrant, accurate colour and high-quality output.
  • It has allowed them to be self-reliant rather than outsourcing work.
  • Given them greater flexibility in the size of the signage they produce, up to 1,652mm.
  • CMYKGO ink configuration provides vibrancy and colour accuracy that surpasses most competition.

Nicole (Nikki) Sergeant, Founder and Principal Signwriter at Darwin Signs is passionate about a lot of things; signage, providing exceptional products and service, her staff and her clients. After several years mastering her craft working for other local signwriting businesses, it was this passion that compelled Nikki to branch out on her own and launch Darwin Signs in 2020. This passion has also driven Darwin Signs’ rapid growth in the few short years since.

Signwriting has been the only industry Nikki has loved and pursued from her “early days of swinging a brush.” Now Darwin Signs employs a staff of three, operating the latest digital printers, with advanced design software to leverage Nikki’s creative talents. They produce impressive and professional signage, designs and branding for their clients that will last in the Northern Territory’s harsh climate. Darwin Signs is proud to offer ‘full-service’ from design to manufacturing to installation, as well as contracting to their national counterparts when required.

Innovation, Excellence and Energy

From the outset, Nikki had clear business growth ambitions and chose to invest in the most cutting-edge Roland DG print technology that was available at the time of launching Darwin Signs. Nikki says “my only consideration was quality and Roland DG has long been the leader. After using HP Latex in the past I wanted a printer that would surpass my competition and provide top quality prints for my clients.”

Her philosophy hasn’t changed since. Nikki says “improving business productivity and efficiency are two of the important benefits of buying new equipment for your business. Having new and updated equipment helps employees work more effectively, increases your range of services, expands your capacity and helps you win new business. And with new clients, comes an injection of goodwill and new energy.”

National Award Winners

Darwin Signs are obviously doing impressive things. Their most recent achievement was Winning the 2024 Australian Trades Small Business Champions Award in the Signmaker category. This was their second nomination in 4 short years and to win this category among a large number of entrants from rural, regional and city centres across Australia speaks volumes for Darwin Signs. Various aspects of their operations were scrutinised including strategy, growth plans, financial performance, eco-friendliness, innovation, customer service quality and community support, and deemed to be ‘outstanding’; resulting in their win.

Nikki is extremely proud of her small team, acknowledging the “dedication and effort they put in on a daily basis”. Nicole also recognises “their amazing clients, for their constant support.” Nicole goes on to hint that they’ve got “more exciting news to come” so this rising star is one to watch.

Competitive Advantage

When it comes to talking about their rapid business growth, Nikki says her VG2 gives Darwin Signs a “competitive advantage” and their customers are “excited about the new opportunities and standard of work it produces”. Customers always “praise the vibrant colours and outstanding print quality, especially when they incorporate high-resolution images in their completed jobs.”

Nikki says “their Roland VG2-640 printer with a print width of 1,652mm gives you so much more flexibility in sign sizing and the CMYKGO configuration provides that vibrancy and accuracy in colour that surpasses most others.

When choosing their TrueVIS VG2-640 Nikki says “Roland DG's customer service, industry experience and product knowledge were consistent and professional. The stand-out quality of Roland DG's equipment won - hands down.”

Just ask Nikki if she’d recommend Roland DG and its products to others and her quick response is “Yes! Of course!”

We’re excited to see how high this energetic ‘rising star’ in the Northern Territory can soar and what other accolades and awards they win the in process.
